2 Head Cassette Deck

The Nakamichi 500 Dual-Tracer was designed to be the most advanced two head cassette deck ever made. From the standpoint of extended flat frequency response, noise, dynamic range, wow & flutter, and speed stability the Nakamichi 500 will outperform any other cassette recorder with the exception of our own Tri-Tracers.

This is not surprising, to create the 500, Nakamichi engineers employed much of the advanced technology developed for the Tri-Tracers. The tape transport, for example, uses a servo controlled D.C. motor for rock steady speed and features automatic end off tape shut-off with complete mechanical disengagement. But the real design triumph of the Nakamichi 500 is its Focused Gap, a miracle of precision assembly. By critically maintaining a focused gap of 1.5 microns, more signal can be put on the tape (particularly at high frequencies) with lower distortion. And maintaining this same critical width in playback, assures extended high frequency response to beyond 17,000 Hz. A host of other features, such as Dolby NR circuitry, a three position tape selector and 45 dB peak level meters don't begin to tell the quality story of this extraordinary machine.
